MARY POPPINS: Horse

The setup pictured above features an embellished MARY POPPINS production cel of a horse from the animated fox hunt sequence.

The cel itself looks like this.

The matching frame in the film looks like this:

The horse originally had a hunter on an overlay cel. Finding the matched hunter production cel is unlikely at best.

So, I asked my restoration artist (who was "ink and paint" trained at Disney) to recreate the Hunter overlay cel. She not only recreated the cel, but used a special technique to make her hand-inking look like Xerox lines! It's just briliiant, and so is she. The word "re-creation" is hand-inked at the bottom of the cel. (Due to image cropping you can't see it here.)

Here's how the Horse production cel and the Hunter look together... re-united after forty years!

The setup is completed with a digitally re-assembled key master background (below).

MARY POPPINS - Pearlie Band: Two Musicians

This cel from MARY POPPINS "SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS" sequence features two musicians from the Pearlie Band. It was originally placed on a plain piece of light yellow art board as a Disneyland Art Corner setup.

The cel was carefully removed from the Art Board intact, entirely original and with no paint loss.

A key frame digital setup was created, so the cel could overlay all other matching elements and recreate precisely the original moment in the film, reuniting all the musicians for the first time in forty years!.

The original Art Corner setup is pictured below:

MARY POPPINS: Penguin 08-01

This cel from MARY POPPINS animated "Jolly Holiday" sequence features one of the dancing penguins (far right). It was originally paired with a separate cel of a rooster and a hen (and a color print background from Sleeping Beauty!) in a Disneyland Art Corner setup.

The cel layers were separated. The penguin layer was removed intact, entirely original with no paint loss.

A key frame digital setup was created, so the cel could overlay all other matching elements and recreate precisely the original moment in the film, reuniting the penguin with the rest of his animated dance troupe.

The original Art Corner setup is pictured below.

MARY POPPINS: Barnyard

This very rare cel from MARY POPPINS animated "Jolly Holiday" sequence features a rooster and hen (far left) from the barnyard scene.

If you look very closely you can see the cel's edge, on the right side of Mary Poppins. Cels were usually trimmed for sale at Disneyland's Art Corner... probably so they could fit in a smaller (less expensive) mat.

Originally this was paired with a separate penguin cel (and a color print background from Sleeping Beauty!) in a Disneyland Art Corner setup.

The barnyard birds were severely adhered to the mismatched background, and suffered some paint damage during the separation process. The cel has been professionally restored.

A key frame digital setup was created, so the cel could overlay all other matching elements and recreate precisely the original moment in the film.

The original Art Corner setup is pictured below.
